The Cultural Center of the Philippines in partnership with Zonta Club Metro Greenhills,
Soroptimist SI Founder Manila and Rotary Club of Makati Premiere District proudly presents
the Philippine Ballet Theatre in a beautiful classical ballet this holiday season. Founded in 1987 PBT has established itself as a pre-eminent classical ballet company in the Philippines today.

Among the company’s jewels is well preserved rich and elegant Nutcracker which has remained a crowd favorite through the years. Generations of audiences have enjoyed this perennial charming tale of holiday adventure that follows a little girl’s journey into a fantasy world of fairies, princess, toy soldiers and an army of mice! The ballet now returns to the stage and will open at the Newport Performing Arts Theater on December 16 & 17, 2023. With the generous support of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Manila Times, Philippine Airlines, San Miguel Corporation, Sunlife and NYXSYS Philippines, a strong comeback is in the works. Making up for lost time, Artistic Director Ronilo Jaynario has restaged this crowd favorite with spicy additions to the choreography.

What sets this Nutcracker apart from others is that it was specifically created for the company in 1995 for the company. Ballet Stars Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov created an upscale version that capitalizes on story telling and holiday cheer. This ballet uses a cast of over a hundred artists of different ages. The cast includes little ballerinas as angels, mother ginger dancers, party kids, dolls and whole line up of colorful characters. They of course dance with a strong fleet of Philippine Ballet Theatre Artists. Mathew Davo and Jessa Tangalin will take on the leads as Nutcracker Prince and Sugarplum fairy. Making their Nutcracker debut are company artists Sophie Tiangco and Therese Riego who will be alternating as Clara.
